D-street continues positive streak ahead of Trump press conference; Sensex soars 241 pts

Continuing with buoyancy for second straight day, Nifty 50 zoomed in excess of a percent point supported by gains in financial counters.

Among NSE sectorial benchmarks, Nifty Metal (up 4.3%) continued to rock the show. By closing marginally in red Nifty IT stood as the sole loser.

Globally, US and Asian benchmarks closed mixed, whereas European markets were trading exuberant ahead of a crucial press conference by US President-elect Donald Trump. The press conference may give important clues on his economic policies.

The market breadth on the BSE closed in positive. Advancing and declining stocks were 1822 and 1134 respectively, while 173 scrips remained unmoved.

The S&P BSE Sensex ended at 27140.41, up 240.85 points or 0.90%. The 30 share index touched a high and a low of 27174.87 and 26978.44 respectively. 23 stocks advanced against 7 declining ones on the benchmark index.

The Nifty 50 gained 92.05 points or 1.11% to settle at 8380.65. The index touched high and low of 8389.00 and 8322.25 respectively. 42 stocks advanced against 9 declining ones on the index.


S&P BSE Sensex

The S&P BSE Mid-cap index moved up to 12618.58 and gained 1.37% while S&P BSE Small-cap index jumped up by 0.98% to 12706.75.

The broader S&P BSE 500 index increased to 11402.48 (up 1.13%) and Nifty 500 index rose to 7214.15 (up 1.15%).

The volatility as denoted by INDIA VIX lost 2.57% at 14.81 from its previous close of 15.20 on Tuesday.

Sectors in action

On the BSE Sectorial front, Metals (up 4.42%), Basic Materials (up 2.52%), Banks (up 2.40%), Finance (up 2.00%) and Capital Goods (up 1.39%) were the top gainers.

Information Technology (down 0.02%) was the only loser.

The Angels and the Devils

Coal India Ltd (up 5.41%), Tata Steel Ltd (up 3.99%), Lupin Ltd (up 2.20%), Larsen And Toubro Ltd (up 1.91%) and ICICI Bank (up 1.79%) were the top gainers on the Sensex.

Bajaj Auto Ltd (down 1.09%), ITC Ltd (down 0.56%), Reliance Industries Ltd (down 0.28%), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (down 0.18%) and Infosys Ltd (down 0.16%) were the top losers on the Sensex.


Pivot, Supports and Resistance Levels

Nifty 50 is now pivoted at 8364 for next session. The next support is at 8339 and on upside it has a resistance at 8406 levels.
